The group Acesso Livre has the participation of undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Brasilia in several areas, such as Languages, Arts, and Communication. The presence of the group in the teaching field, since the undergraduate level, is one of our purposes to stimulate the involvement of the university community in research activities.

We also have a strong link with extension, which is one of the fundamental pillars of Brazilian higher education and presents itself as a transforming process in which the relationship between the university and the community is emphasized in a horizontal and participatory way, allowing the production of knowledge and interaction in real contexts.

Many of the researches of the group Acesso Livre are results of actions developed in the scope of the following extension projects:

  • "Culture and Society: audiovisual accessibility – audio description and subtitling," created in 2010 at the Foreign Languages and Translation Department (LET), seeking to articulate research, education and extension activities aimed at artistic and cultural accessibility for people with visual and hearing diversity. Through a theoretical and practical approach, the project aims to foster the training and development of accessibility professionals, bringing them closer to their target audience. Thus, the group creates accessible materials and promotes cultural fruition activities for and with the local community.

  • CiberLibras, project created at the Department of Linguistics, Portuguese and Classical Languages (LIP) to disseminate the term signs and news from the academic routine of the University of Brasilia to teachers and students, facilitating the inclusion of the deaf community in the university space. One of our biggest goals is to promote more autonomy for the hearing impaired person when looking for the signs that are used more specifically within the university or to be able to get informed about day-to-day academic situations.
